Sri M. K. Gopinathan Nair was born on 9th May, 1946 at Mavelikara, Kerala. He obtained his Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engg. from College of Engineering, Trivandrum. The 12th batch, during 1968-'69, at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Training School, he completed his training as 1st Rank Holder and recipient of Homi Bhabha Prize.

He joined ISRO in August 1969. He worked in the field of Liquid Propulsion, both Storable and Cryogenic and also in the development of Precision Fluid Control Components for Launch Vehicles and Satellites. He was deputed to SEP, France during 1974-78 for working in ARIANE Programme. Sri M. K. G Nair also worked for the development of VIKAS Liquid Engine. He was also responsible for the design and development of many Liquid Stages - PS2/PS4, GS2 and L40 Stages-which were successfully flown in PSLV & GSLV.

        1986-1996 : Dy. Project Director, PS2/PSLV
        1991-1996 : Dy. Project Director, GS2/GSLV
        1995 : Group Head, Liquid Propulsion Stages (Storable & Cryogenic)
        1996 : Associate Project Director (Liquid Propulsion Systems), GSLV
        1998: Group Director, Liquid Propulsion Stages, LPSC
        2000  : Dy. Director, Liquid Propulsion Stages Entity, LPSC
        2006 : Associate Director, LPSC
        2007 to 2010: Director, LPSC

He was the recipient of :
